Each Qdos® Universal Stair Mounting Adapter is designed for one banister for situations where there is a banister on one side and a wall on the other. If you have banisters on both sides, you will need to purchase two Universal Stair Mounting Adapters.

+ I have banisters on both sides of my stairs. Will this kit work?
Yes, our Universal Stair Mounting Kit will work on banister-to-banister installations, however, you will need one kit for each banister. Keep in mind, each kit reduces the opening by 1.5".
+ Will I have to drill holes in the banister or floor if I am using the Stair Mounting Kit?
No, our Universal Stair Mounting Kit has heavy duty nylon straps that wrap around your banisters to protect your woodwork, so there’s no need to screw into it.
+ What are the dimensions of the piece of wood that comes with the Universal Stair Mounting Kit?
34.25” long by 1 7/8" wide by .75" thick. The max installation point for a baby gate to fit the Universal Stair Mounting Kit is 34", meaning that the top of where a gate mounts can't be above this point.
+ Can the Universal Stair Mounting Kit be used on other brands of baby gates?
Yes, our Universal Stair Mounting Kit can be used on any baby gate that is up to 34” tall.
+ Will the Universal Stair Mounting Kit work on a metal banister?
Only if it is at least 2" in diameter. If you are looking to install a Qdos Pressure Mount baby gate, you might be able to use our Y-Spindles on your metal banister.
+ What is the maximum installation height my gate can be to use with the Universal Stair Mounting Kit?
The maximum gate installation height is 34”. This means that the top of the hardware attaching the gate to the Universal Stair Mounting Kit can't be above 34".
+ I have a banister on one side and a wall on the other. Can I install the Universal Stair Mounting Kit to the banister and mount to the wall on the other side?
Yes, if you are only mounting one side of the baby gate to a banister, you only need one Universal Stair Mounting Kit.
+ Can I use the Universal Stair Mounting Kit with either a pressure or hardware mount baby gate?
Yes, our Universal Stair Mounting Kit can be used with either pressure or hardware mount baby gates. We recommend never using ANY pressure mounted baby gate at the TOP of the stairs due to the inherent trip hazard.
+ Can you adjust where the brackets go on the banister?
The Top Bracket needs to be no more than 3” from the top of the wooden board and the Bottom Bracket needs to be between 2 - 4” from the bottom of the wooden board.
+ What is the minimum size banister the Universal Stair Mounting Kit will attach to?
It needs to be at least 2" in diameter for round banisters OR 2.5" for square banisters. You can also install the Stair Mounting Kit between two spindles. If the banister is smaller than these measurements and you are looking to install a Qdos Pressure Mount baby gate, you might be able to use our Y-Spindles.
